Infants – What We’ve Been Up To!

It has been a very busy and exciting few weeks in Junior Infants. The children have been learning through play, exploring new topics, and getting stuck into lots of creative activities.

Our theme was At the Doctor / Hospital. The children loved stepping into role as doctors, nurses, radiographers and patients. They created their very own X-rays in the free-play art area, cooked healthy meals in the “canteen” kitchen, and used the doctor sets to care for lots of very important patients!

In Maths, both classes explored height and “taller”, building towers, comparing sizes and using lots of mathematical language. The children also worked together during “exploring tall” activities and had great fun testing different sized objects.

Our Art lessons have been bursting with creativity. The class made brilliant Jonty Gentoo Penguins to go with our big book, created colourful Gingerbread Men linked to our oral language lessons, designed ‘L’ lollipops for our new sound /l/, and made cosy winter hats as part of our SESE work on “What to wear when it gets cold.”

In Ms. Blackwell’s class the children have been exploring waterproof materials by testing out their homemade umbrellas, discovering which items could stay dry and which ones couldn’t. In handwriting, we worked on letter formation using train tracks, helping the children build strong fine-motor skills while having lots of fun.

Both classes were delighted to begin our weekly “Friday Friends” sessions, giving the children opportunities to socialise, collaborate, and build friendships in a relaxed and fun way.

To finish off our creative work, Ms. Blackwell’s class experimented with print making, using different shapes and tools to design their own unique patterns and artworks.
