Junior Infants: A Wonderful December of Learning and Christmas Magic

Both Miss O’Driscoll’s and Miss Blackwell’s Junior Infant classes had an incredibly busy – and absolutely wonderful – December. The children worked so hard practising for their school performance, and we hope you’ll agree that they were fantastic on the night. We are so proud of them.

In Miss O’Driscoll’s classroom, our theme for the month was Santa’s Workshop. The children stepped straight into the role of Santa’s elves, gaining plenty of hands-on experience in Christmas preparations!
They wrapped presents, tested toys, opened battery compartments with screwdrivers and replaced the batteries. Other elves took on important construction roles, designing new houses for Rudolph and creating a brand-new workshop for Santa himself.

We also had a wonderfully festive creative space: the children made Christmas tree decorations from salt dough (with plenty of glitter!), designed new toys for Santa, baked “cookies” at the playdough station, and enjoyed free-play art sessions where they sketched even more toy ideas. Alongside all this, there was lots of Christmas colouring, sensory play, and even a chance to watch Santa on the North Pole camera while they worked.

In Ms Blackwell’s classroom, the creative spirit was just as strong. The children designed and decorated their own Christmas jumpers, explored the number 6 through peg-and-artwork activities, and practised their initial sound sorting with great enthusiasm. Their classroom was full of colour, imagination, and joyful learning all month long.

It was a magical December for all our Junior Infants, filled with creativity, teamwork, and festive excitement. We hope you enjoy the photos!
