All STEAM Ahead with St. Cremin's

19th Mar 2026

It certainly has been "All STEAM Ahead" in school recently with our celebration of all things S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics" related. Students enjoyed an abundance of STEAM-based classroom activities and classes also took part in a variety of workshops.
Aidan, from SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) visited 1st & 2nd class to explore the topic of energy and sustainability in a fun and engaging way.
Kelley, STEM Officer from Westmeath County Council visited 3rd class to teach robotics and coding skills. Lots of fun was had racing their robotic creations at the end of the lesson. Junior and Senior Infants also enjoyed a robotics demonstration and had fun playing the "banana piano".

We were also grateful to the parents who took time from their busy schedules to visit our senior classes and speak about a variety of occupations linked to STEAM and to answer all our questions. It was very interesting to hear all about the work people do within these areas.

Junior classes also enjoyed working with Bee-Bots to build upon programming and coding skills in a fun and interactive way. Senior classes also put their coding skills to use with Spike Lego and made many amazing and creative constructions during the two week initiative.

As part of our STEAM initiative, 6th class also availed of the opportunity to visit our neighbouring school, Wilson's Hospital School to gain hands-on experience of the STEAM subjects at secondary level. We are very grateful to the students and teachers of Wilson's School who facilited this enjoyable and informative event.

To conclude our STEAM programme, senior classes held a STEAM exhibition to showcase and present STEAM projects to fellow students and the wider school community.
Well done everyone!
