As part of our Active Schools initiative, we participated in the Active Breaks Challenge between January 19th and February 13th. During this initiative each class participated in a 10 minute movement break each day during the challenge. The challenge was run in conjunction with the GAA and all the videos linked to the challenge were filmed in Croke Park. In addition to this, we started up a running club in the school 3 mornings a week during the challenge and this was extended up to St Patrick's Day. The children ran 1km (5 laps of the astro turf) 3 mornings a week from 19th January so by St Patrick's Day they had clocked up 20km. Anyone that was available ran the last kilometre of the half Marathon at the Mullingar Half Marathon on St Patrick's Day and received a medal at the finish line. The initiative was a major success and was enjoyed by all.
